High/Scope

Our centers use the High/Scope Educational Approach.

The High/Scope Pre-school curriculum is shown to:

  1. Think independently, expand curiosity, and develop a desire for knowledge
  2. Prepare for leaning math, science, reading and writing
  3. Better handle and maintain social relationships.

The High/Scope Approach to Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten Education is a gold standard prevention program which has shown significant and lasting benefits for children, families and society.   Over time, these benefits included better readiness for school at age 5; better commitment to school at age 14; better health and family relationships; higher rates of employment and earnings; less involvement with criminal activity; and higher levels of social responsibility; to name a few.  The approach has been successful internationally.

In 2006, the Whistler Children’s Centre was the first center in BC to have certified teachers and is now joined by colleagues at, Sea to Sky Early Learning Centre in Squamish and Highlands Pre-school in North Vancouver. Eagleview Pre-school in Squamish is also recognized as a model classroom.  The High/Scope working group, a corridor partnership formed though the prevention efforts of Communities That Care-Squamish, has also been given the authorization to become a High/Scope Training Centre for Western Canada.  Most recently the Whistler Children’s Centre has taken a lead role in offering specialized Infant Toddler Training for providers in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
